Study an Online LLB in the UK

A small number of universities in the UK offer online LLB  programs and whilst it is technically possible for students to do an online LLB, these programs do not satisfy the in-person study requirements mandated by the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) which states that all candidates must complete two years of in-person instruction.

Returning to Canada after an Online LLB

If you’ve obtained an online LLB qualification from the UK, you would need to complete an additional two years of in-person study, often making this process far more costly, as well as time-consuming, than just doing a 3-year in-person LLB. In the UK you have the option of both a 3-year and 2-year LLB.

The NCA provides the following recommendations for ways in which you can complete the in-person study requirement:

  • Two 1-year course-based LLM programs. If you choose this option, you could complete a course-based LLM at any approved Law School in any Common Law jurisdiction.
  • One 2-year course-based LLM program.
  • Courses in a Common Law JD or LLB

For further details on what the NCA requires visit their FAQ page here.
