Overview
The University of Guelph is one of Canada’s top comprehensive and research-intensive universities in Ontario. The University was established in 1964, but its roots can be traced back more than 150 years to the founding colleges of Ontario Veterinary College, Macdonald Institute, and Ontario Agricultural College. Guelph offers over 80 degree programs, over 100 graduate and postdoctoral study programs, and more than 60 distance learning opportunities.
The University of Guelph is known for its strong academic degrees in areas such as Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Business and Veterinary Medicine. The University places a strong emphasis on experiential learning, with many courses offering co-op placements, internships, and study abroad opportunities. It is also a research-intensive Canadian university, and students have many opportunities to engage in research projects with faculty members.
The University of Guelph's campus is located in Guelph, Ontario, and is known for its beautiful green spaces, gardens, and historic buildings. Guelph is a vibrant city located in southern Ontario, with easy access to Toronto and other major cities in the province.
Services
For the last four years, the University of Guelph has been ranked as the best university in Ontario for the living environment, learning opportunities and support given to international students. It is well-known for its warm and friendly campus atmosphere, prevailing in all seven campus locations.
With 2,000 international students from nearly 130 countries enrolled, Guelph has dedicated advisory bodies for easing the transition for first-year students. International Student Advisors provide confidential one-on-one advice to full-time international students, new immigrants, and refugees so that they can blend into a new culture in a safe environment.
Students get support from a fully-functional International Student Organization (ISO). The club aims to act as a crossroad for international students to learn about university life on campus and the various resources available to them.

The University of Guelph's Sustainability MBA program has been ranked the best sustainability MBA in Canada and ninth in the world (Better World MBA Rankings). The University has also achieved a five-star rating from QS, publishers of the annual World University Rankings.
In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023, Guelph's Veterinary College placed sixth worldwide. For Agriculture and Forestry, they tied 24th place globally, while Hospitality and Leisure Management programs are placed within the top 100 in the world.
Accommodation
The University of Guelph has one of Canada's largest university housing systems. Students have the option to reside in 14 different co-ed campus residences. The East Village Townhouses, consisting of 164 four and six-bedroom self-contained units, house the upper-year and international students.
Other residencies include the South Residence ( home to 1800 students), East Residence (610 students), Lesson/Addington Hall (520), Lambton Hall (400), Watson Hall (67, Female only) West Residences (110). The West Residences promote diverse programs and opportunities for community involvement.
