Journalism Innovation and Leadership PGCert Scholarship
Overview
The Journalism Innovation and Leadership (JILeaders) team at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is offering five PGCert tuition-fee scholarships in Journalism Innovation and Leadership. These are for professionals of any nationality that are funded by the Google News Initiative (GNI), International Media Support (IMS), Google News Initiative (GNI), International Media Support (IMS), FT Strategies, Chrysalis and The Media Lab.
Successful applicants will be highly motivated leaders eager to innovate, grow their confidence, their networks and career prospects. The JILeaders Programme equip forward-thinking media professionals to successfully lead teams, projects and organisations in an increasingly complex and competitive media landscape.
If you’re successful, you’ll be expected to undertake a flexible online learning 30-week plan, meeting once a week. You’ll complete two modules (JN4530 and JN4531) for the postgraduate certificate in Journalism Innovation and Leadership. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet in-person or online for study blocks in May and October 2025.

Eligibility
There are five scholarships available for 50% of one year of postgraduate UK tuition fees (up to £1,400)

Applications should have a strong interest in the challenges facing journalism and its leaders and have an undergraduate degree in journalism or a related media subject at least 2:1 or evidence of professional journalism, or media industry experience (normally five years)

IELTS: score of 7 or equivalent

Applicants will also be interviewed either in person or online

GCSEs: Maths and English at Grade C/4 or equivalent such as Level 2 functional skills in Maths and English
