Lancaster University is a highly ranked UK university with a global reputation for excellence in research and teaching. Lancaster is consistently ranked among the top 15 in three major UK league tables, including 10th in the Complete University Guide 2026, 14th in The Guardian University Guide 2026, and 15th in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026.
The University offers a wide range of programmes at the foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD levels as well as development courses for professionals. Its renowned research and expert academics underpin study at Lancaster. In the UK Government's 2021 Research Excellence Framework, 91% of its research was rated as 'internationally excellent' or 'world-leading' and 46% was rated in the highest category of 4*.

The campus and city are hubs of activity, with a packed calendar of events and many things to do and see. There are music, art, crafts and food festivals, and lots of cultural events and celebrations.

Lancaster University assists international students every step of the way, from application through to graduation, and for the rest of their lives. They give guidance on obtaining visas, travelling to Lancaster, planning costs and pre-arrival information, and offer an airport pickup service from Manchester Airport before the beginning of the term.

91% of Lancaster's research has been independently rated as 'internationally excellent' or 'world leading', with 46% rated in the highest category of 4* in the REF 2021. National Student Survey
Lancaster has been ranked highly in the 2025 National Student Survey, with student feedback placing us among the UK’s top ten universities for high-quality learning resources (91.6%). Academic support also received strong praise, with 90.2% of students voting positively, and the university is also ranked 6th in the UK for library resources, with a satisfaction score of 93.9%.
Accommodation
Lancaster University offers a range of modern and comfortable living spaces on campus. There are options to suit different preferences and budgets, including en-suites, rooms in flats or houses with shared facilities, and self-contained studios. Lancaster also has accessible accommodation and family flats.
Student accommodation at Lancaster University is based within the University’s colleges; Lancaster is one of only a few UK universities with a collegiate system, with eight undergraduate and one postgraduate college, each with their own personality and facilities. Colleges are more than just a place to stay, students have the chance to study and socialise there and a full schedule of events to choose from, like quizzes, live performances and sporting competitions. Colleges act as students’ university families and are places where lifelong friendships are made and support can be accessed 24/7.
