UCAS Clearing 2025

3 min read
Contents

UCAS Clearing is an important opportunity for Indian students who have not secured a place at a UK university through the standard application process. It is designed for students in the following situations:

  • They applied after the June 30th deadline
  • Exam results fell short of the conditional offer requirements
  • No offers were received, or no offers were accepted

Clearing allows UK universities to fill remaining vacancies on undergraduate courses starting in September 2025, offering a second chance for students to begin their studies without delay. The Clearing process opens in early July and continues through to mid-September, giving students flexibility and time to explore alternative options.

For Indian students, Clearing can be especially helpful if CBSE, ICSE, or state board results were lower than expected, or if decisions were delayed due to board exam timings. It’s also ideal for students who changed their minds about their course or university choices after submitting their original UCAS application.

Through Clearing, students can speak directly with university admissions teams, check course availability, and secure a confirmed offer, all within a matter of days. It’s a fast-moving and competitive process, so preparation and timely action are key.

UCAS Clearing Support

Learn more below about how StudyIn India can assist students in finding available courses at UK universities from July onwards. Arrange a free consultation to get started.

1. Receive free clearing advice

Arrange your free consultation to learn more about available undergraduate courses for September entry at UK universities. Your personal consultant will review the Clearing list with you, discussing subject options and university locations.

2. We will contact universities on your behalf

Once we have established which courses and universities you are interested in, your consultant will contact institutions on your behalf to find out if they are interested in accepting you as a student.

3. Consider your Clearing offer

After contacting universities on your behalf, you may be informally offered a place at several institutions. If you are unfamiliar with the university, research the institution, area and accommodation options.

4. Accepting an offer and adding a Clearing choice to UCAS

If you decide to accept an offer, you will need to enter your Clearing choice through UCAS. You can only enter one Clearing choice at a time but add another if the university doesn’t confirm your place.

Clearing FAQ

When does clearing start?

Clearing starts on July 5th and ends on October 18th.

Is clearing available to Indian students?

Yes, clearing is available to Indian and international students.

How does clearing work?

Contact your university or college to find out if they have vacancies and how to apply. If you don’t meet their entry requirements, you must let them know early on so you can see if any spaces are available on the appropriate degree. If your course has no vacancies, you must add a Clearing choice when you apply. You can only add one clearing choice at a time.

How do I choose courses when in UCAS clearing?

Digging into the course details should be your priority rather than grabbing the first offer. While reviewing the course details, check the module thoroughly and compare course stats such as student satisfaction scores, graduate employment rates, and average graduate salary. Also, don’t forget to relate the course to your initial choice to ensure it matches your interest.
