Overview
Newcastle University was granted university status in 1963 and currently has just over 20,000 students enrolled, of which 4,000 are international. The University is in the north-east of England and is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of research-intensive universities.
Newcastle University is in the top 1% of universities worldwide and overall satisfaction at the University is at 91%, one of the highest scores in the country. A survey from 2013/14 from Graduate Destinations also showed 94% of Newcastle University leavers were in employment or further study six months after graduating.
As a result of its origins as the School of Medicine and Surgery, one of Newcastle’s main strengths remains medicine. It currently works in partnership with the University of Durham and was selected as a national centre to demonstrate good practices in medical tuition. Cancer research facilities are some of the best in the country and Newcastle is in the top five in the UK for hospital and laboratory-based subjects.
Newcastle University, London Campus
Based on a close-knit campus in London’s financial district, Newcastle University London Opened in 2015 and offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and pathway programmes in business, marketing and finance.
The London Campus combines researched informed teaching with an industry immersive education, working hand in hand with industry to enable to students to build the skills that top employers demand. Students benefit from regular professional masterclasses, practical work projects and paid work placement opportunities.
Services
International Welcome Week is held at the beginning of the year to introduce international students to the UK, the University and each other. This includes a meet and greet service from Newcastle Airport as well as workshops, talks and social events like quizzes and ceilidh (traditional dance). In partnership with INTO, Newcastle offers free in-sessional language support throughout the year, as well as pre-sessional courses.

Following the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, Newcastle University was ranked 16th in the UK, a rise of one place from 2008. The bulk of Newcastle’s research output was classified as world leading or internationally excellent.
Accommodation
Accommodation for international students is guaranteed for the first year of study. Newcastle University has almost 4,000 places available, about 25% of which are catered. Facilities vary, with en suite and standard rooms available, as well as larger single rooms, shared rooms and studio apartments. Self-catered rooms are generally arranged in flats with a shared kitchen. The Accommodation Service offers free advice for students looking to find private rented accommodation within Newcastle.
