There are up to 4 fully funded MSc studentships available to UK/EU applicants as part of Cairn Energy’s commitment to research and training at the University and will support MSc students undertaking the Institute’s new Subsurface Energy Systems (SES) MSc programme or a 1-year full-time MSc by Research (MRes) project in Clean Energy.

The MSc sponsorship is available to any UK/EU fee paying student who has received an offer for the SES MSc programme and will cover UK fees at the UKRI level and annual stipend of £15,285. It is a pre-requisite that the MSc dissertation project will be undertaken in sustainable energy and supervised by Professor John Underhill.

Informal enquiries about the scholarships and the relevant application process can be made to Lorna Morrow ([email protected]). Eligible applicants of the MSc Subsurface Energy Systems programme should send their CV and answers to the questions below to Lorna after an offer of a place to study on the programme has been received.

  • What do you understand by the terms Sustainable/Clean Energy?
  • How does your background make you suitable for this opportunity?
  • What would the award of a scholarship mean to you?
  • Why should we award you one of the scholarships?
  • Give an outline of your ideal future career profile

The scholarship application deadline is Wednesday 8 July.

Applications will be considered in July 2020 and may involve a formal interview in person or via Skype.

If interested in the 1 year MSc by Research option, more information can be viewed on the School of Energy, Geoscience and Infrastructure’s Funded Research Opportunities web page.
