Overview

University of New Brunswick (UNB) is the oldest English-language public university in Canada, having two primary campuses in Fredericton and Saint John, New Brunswick. It is also among the oldest public universities in all of North America and was founded in 1785 by a group of seven loyalists who left the USA after the American Revolution.

The University of New Brunswick offers more than 75 undergraduate and graduate programs in over 60 disciplines and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. The total student enrollment at UNB is around 10,000. UNB is also a research-intensive university, having more than 60 research centres and accounting for around 75% of all the university research done in New Brunswick. UNB provides an array of scholarships to its graduate and research students by spending around 9.7 million CAD annually.

The Fredericton campus was established in 1785, while the smaller campus at Saint John started in 1964. The Saint John campus is also home to New Brunswick’s anglophone medical school, the Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, which is an affiliate of Dalhousie University.

UNB graduates benefit from high-salaried professions in various fields. Students with bachelor's degrees in programs other than the sciences and business on average earn a yearly salary of around $51,000 after graduation.

Services

UNB attracts around 1,000 students from more than 100 countries each year and aside from providing an excellent academic experience, both campuses have over 125 clubs and societies to choose from. The University also has arrangements for student exchange with more than 36 countries, with 89 university partners.

UNB is committed to giving support to students so that their well-being and mental health are taken care of, by the availability of a range of services. These include- academic advising, community gardens, counselling services, and career development drives. The experiential learning opportunities provided by the university in every faculty help in building skills while making an impact during the study years. Accommodation

UNB gives the option of residences to students who wish to stay in and around the campuses. There are 13 residences on the Fredericton Campus and three on the Saint John Campus. The UNB residence team makes sure that they are able to provide a supportive and safe living environment to all the students by either the residence staff or the live-in proctors always being available to offer help.

There are a multitude of facilities and services available to students at different locations. Dining options are there in terms of dining halls where you can mention your dietary specifications as well. Laundry facilities, repair and maintenance, along with mailing services are also there for the students to take advantage of. Internet services are provided to the students, which is handled by Rogers Communications on both campuses.
