University of Liverpool sees increase in subjects ranked in QS Global Top 100

20 March 2025

The University of Liverpool has achieved a significant milestone in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject, with 12 subjects now ranked in the global top 100, up from eight in 2024. The rankings assess 1,747 universities worldwide, measuring academic reputation, employer reputation, and research impact.

Liverpool’s top 100-ranked subjects for 2025 include:

  • English

  • Veterinary Science

  • Medicine

  • Pharmacy & Pharmacology

  • Petroleum Engineering

  • Anatomy & Physiology

  • Nursing
  • Archaeology

  • Geography

  • Architecture

  • Marketing

  • Classics

Additionally, 15 subjects have improved in rank, including Accounting, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Psychology, and Business. Notably, all subjects at Liverpool now rank within the global top 300.

These subject-level achievements follow the University’s institutional rise to 165th place in the QS World University Rankings 2025. Professor Tim Jones, Vice-Chancellor, said: “It’s fantastic to see more of our subjects recognised globally. This achievement reflects the dedication of our academic community and reinforces Liverpool’s position as a leading university.”
