Trinity College Dublin has climbed to 75th place in the QS World University Rankings 2026, its highest global ranking in over a decade. The university has risen 12 places from last year, when it was ranked 87th, and continues to be Ireland’s top-ranked university by a considerable margin.
This year’s improvement is largely driven by Trinity’s strong performance in the Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation categories. The QS rankings evaluate the world’s leading 1,501 universities across key indicators including reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, research impact, and internationalisation. Commenting on the achievement, Trinity’s Provost and President, Dr Linda Doyle, said:
“The rankings news encourages us to be even bolder in our ambition for Trinity and, indeed, for Ireland—an ambition that should be championed and defended regardless of the rankings. A sustainable funding model for higher education in Ireland is key to helping us to thrive. While increased core funding helps us to achieve our ambitions on the national and international stage, we need to see an absolute step-change in how universities and research are funded in Ireland.”
Earlier in the year, Trinity also expanded its standing in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, with 42 subjects now recognised, up from 40 in the previous edition. Four of these subjects are ranked in the global top 50:
- Nursing (=20)
- English Language and Literature (27)
- Pharmacy and Pharmacology (=34)
- Performing Arts (43)
This consistent performance reaffirms Trinity’s position as a global leader in teaching and research excellence across a broad range of disciplines.
