New Zealand student visa types
This visa is for international students enrolling in a full-time course longer than three months in New Zealand. To apply, you must pay the full course fees and enrol with an approved education provider.
This visa allows students to study up to three consecutive, pre-approved programmes for a maximum of five years.
Children aged 19 years old and under can join their parents (the student visa holder) in New Zealand and stay for as long as the parent’s visa allows.
Parents or legal guardians of students aged 17 years or younger can live in New Zealand to take care of their children while they study.
Partners of student visa holders can visit for the same duration as their partner’s visa. They can study for up to three months but cannot work.
Post-study work and permanent residency pathways in New Zealand
The Post-Study Work Visa allows graduates to stay and work in New Zealand for up to three years, depending on their qualifications and the job offer.
Additionally, there are several skilled residence pathways for those seeking a long-term stay. Graduates may qualify for residence through the Skilled Migrant Resident pathway, the Green List pathway (via the Straight to Residence Visa or Work to Residence Visa), or the Care Workforce and Transport Sector Agreement pathways, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
