Overview
The University of Massachusetts Amherst, which is also known as UMass Amherst or UMass, is a public research university situated in the city of Amherst, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1863 as an agricultural college and is currently the largest university in the state by campus size and undergraduate enrollment. It is also the flagship and the largest campus in the University of Massachusetts system.
The university offers 110 undergraduate degrees, 77 masters and 48 doctoral programs through the nine schools and colleges. These programs are delivered on campus and also through a wide array of flexible and innovative learning options that include online versions as well.
Services
The UMass campus offers various resources and services that have been designed to support the growth of students academically and personally. The university has state-of-the-art fitness facilities giving students a chance to keep a healthy body. Mental health services are also provided when needed by any of the students. The Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success takes care of the cultural diversity on campus.

Accommodation
The Residence Life at UMass is one of the largest on-campus housing systems in the country. Around 14,000 students choose to live in 52 residence halls that include the traditional halls, suits and apartments spread across the campus. There are options for single-gender and co-ed housing, apart from the communities where students having common interests can live together.
