Overview

Victoria University is a dual-sector institution, offering students flexible pathways from vocational education to higher education, like certificate or diploma courses through to undergraduate and even postgraduate qualifications by coursework or research. The university is particularly recognised for its innovative ‘VU Block Model,’ where students focus on one subject at a time in interactive, workshop-style classes. This approach, inspired by successful models in North America and Europe, makes VU the first university in Australia – and the largest in the world – to adopt this teaching method.

Whether enrolled in vocational, undergraduate, or postgraduate programmes, students benefit from VU’s state-of-the-art facilities, supportive staff, and a strong emphasis on real-world learning. Opportunities for work placements and industry projects are embedded across courses, supported by VU’s network of over 4,000 industry partners who help ensure that programmes remain aligned with current technologies and trends.

VU’s rankings highlight its commitment to career readiness and practical development. The university leads nationally in employability, technical, and foundational skills, including literacy and communication, and is also ranked first in Australia for professional skills.

Additionally, the university provides assistance and resources for students to find suitable accommodation in Melbourne. They can choose to stay with a local host family through a homestay.

Students can rent a room in a shared house with other students or local residents, or rent a studio or apartment on their own or with a roommate. There are several student accommodation providers in Melbourne that offer purpose-built student accommodation for university students.
