Overview

Carleton University is a public research university located in Ottawa, Ontario. It is an English-language educational institution which first started as a private non-denominational evening college and was founded in 1942 to serve the returning World War II veterans. It was called Carleton College then, and later it was chartered as a University in 1952 by the provincial government.

The University offers a range of academic programs and has been organized into six faculties and more than 65 degree programs. Through more than 200 career-focused programs, many of which are the most unique in Canada, students discover real-life relevance through hands-on training by teachers who take up an innovative approach to impart education. As of 2021, the University enrolled more than 27,000 undergraduate and 4,000 graduate students during the academic year. The students and alumni of the University enjoy an 85.5% employment rate in the related field of their study.

Carleton University has more than 4,500 international students enrolled from over 150 countries.

Services

All international students who come directly from high school are offered a room in one of the 11 on-campus residence buildings if they receive an offer before May 12. International students are also eligible to receive the University’s automatic entrance scholarship.

Carleton University offers personalised support that a student would need to be successful in their academic life. One can also take up countless ways to build their degree around their interest, including adding a minor, concentration, a double major and more. There are also experiential learning options so that students can apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.

The on-campus residence options at the University have traditional and suite-style housing with the latter also offering a kitchenette to 4 students living together. For students living on-campus, Residence Commons serves as a hub as it has The Caf (University’s main dining hall), a Starbucks location, Residence Reception Desk and the Abstentions (a convenience store that also functions as the student government for residence students).
