Overview

Dalhousie University is a large public research university, located in Nova Scotia, Canada. Commonly known as Dal, it has three campuses in Halifax, another in Bible Hill, and a second medical school campus that is situated in Saint John. The University offers more than 4,000 courses, 200 degree programs in 13 undergraduate, graduate and professional faculties. Dalhousie University is also a member of the prestigious U15, which is a group of the most research-intensive universities in Canada.

Founded in 1818, Dalhousie University has a reputation of being one of the top-ranked universities in Canada. This has become possible due to the culture of innovative research, meaningful teaching practices and a deep sense of social responsibility. According to Times Higher Education, it is one of the Top 10 Universities in Canada for Graduate Employability. In general, around 90% of the students of the University take part in work-integrated learning. 

Of the 20,000+ students attending the University, 24% are international students, hailing from more than 115 countries.

Services

Apart from providing excellent academic guidance and support, Dalhouse students have the option to take part in more than 400 clubs and societies. These societies partake in a variety of activities ranging from simple social gatherings, study groups, intramural sports teams, bake sales to even organising large-scale fundraising events.

The University is committed to providing a respectful and safe environment, making inclusiveness a fundamental principle at play. The International Centre functions to support students from various parts of the world to ease into their transition with all the relevant information.

Accommodation

Dalhousie University has 10 student residences throughout its Halifax campuses- Howe Hall, Gerard Hall, Lemarchant Place, Mini Roz, Residence Houses, O’Brien Hall, Risley Hall, Glengarry Apartments, Shirreff Hall, and Graduate House. The largest among them is Howe Hall, which can house 716 students. The University also has three residences on the Agricultural Campus- Fraser House, Chapman House and Truman House. The largest among them is the Chapman House which houses 125 students during the academic year.

All residences are represented by a Residence Council that is responsible for student concerns, organizing events, providing entertainment services and upholding the rules and regulations applicable to the students who choose to live on campus.
