Medicine Courses in Ireland

Study a medicine degree in Ireland

Studying Medicine in Ireland can be a challenging and rewarding experience for Indian students. Being a highly competitive course, entry standards for all medical schools are strict and exacting. Admission interviews can be tough, and students should expect to be asked questions about motivation, previous work, and personal interests, including relevant work experience.

Several medical schools will require students to sit for the Health Professions Admissions Test (HPAT). Irish Medical degrees take around 4-6 years to complete. If you wish to practice as a General Practitioner (GP), one year of compulsory internship in supervised medical and surgical training is required. Some universities allow students to choose to study abroad as part of their elective programmes for up to 12 weeks.

Careers in Medicine

As a medical graduate, you have plenty of options. You may start your career as a General Practitioner or continue training as a General Physician or Surgeon in a related specialist field. Careers in academic medical research, hospital management, pathology, radiology, psychiatry and anesthetics are common paths to follow.

Medicine in Ireland Entry Requirements

Entry requirements vary for each Irish university, but international students will need an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, no lower than 6.0 in each component, and an International Baccalaureate score of 38 points.
