Ireland University Application Deadlines

2 min read
Contents

Before beginning your application, it is important to familiarise yourself with key Central Applications Office (CAO) deadlines.

The CAO application process typically opens in November each year for entry the following autumn session, and the general deadline for submitting applications through the CAO is usually in February.

Major institutions in Ireland, such as Trinity College Dublin and the University of Limerick, have their own application processes separate from the CAO, and typically have earlier deadlines compared to the CAO process. For example, the deadline for undergraduate applications to Trinity College Dublin is usually in January. So, you must check the individual websites of non-CAO institutions for their specific application deadlines.

Key Dates for University Entry in Ireland

2025 Application Deadlines

Key dates in the CAO application cycle include:

  • 20th January: Applications made before this date can be made at a discounted application fee of €30
  • 1st February: Normal closing date for applications (Cost: €45)
  • 7th February: Ability to amend course choices becomes available (Cost: €10)
  • 5th March: Late application period opens
  • 1st May: Closing date for late applications (Cost: €60)

Applicants outside the EU need not submit their university applications through the CAO. International students should contact their preferred Irish university’s admissions office directly or check the relevant website for more information.
