Introduction

Lancaster’s scientists and engineers have a globally renowned reputation for innovative thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge research. The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) offers postgraduate degree courses which equip students with the knowledge, skills and leadership qualities to change the world for the benefit of humankind. The Dean’s Award scholarships, awarded by FST’s Executive Dean, recognise exceptional academic potential amongst international applicants.

Eligibility

This scholarship is available to students planning to study a full-time, taught postgraduate programme (MSc or MA) offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology.

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must have, or achieve as part of your offer conditions, the equivalent of a 1st or 2:1 degree classification in your undergraduate studies. Our equivalent qualifications information below will help you check your eligibility.

You can see whether your chosen course is offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology on the relevant course page – just look in the ‘your department’ information box.

Combining scholarship awards

It is possible to combine the Lancaster Global Scholarship with the Science and Technology Dean’s Award. This means that if you are an international student and have or achieve the equivalent of a 1st class degree, you may be eligible for a scholarship valued at £10,000.

It is also possible to combine the Alumni Loyalty Scholarship with both the Science and Technology Dean’s Award and the Lancaster Global Scholarship.

Further information

  • This scholarship is only available to students on full-time, postgraduate taught programmes offered at the Lancaster campus within the Faculty of Science and Technology. It is not available to students applying for MSc by Research programmes or online programmes.

  • Applicants must have accepted a conditional or unconditional offer from Lancaster University for October 2025 entry.

  • Applicants in receipt of external funding will only be eligible for this scholarship where the external funding covers less than 50% of the tuition fee.

  • Applicants applying from articulation partners and Pre-Master’s programmes offered by Lancaster University are not eligible for this scholarship.

  • Awardees must be classed as ‘overseas’ or ‘international’ fee-paying students for tuition fee purposes for the duration of their studies. If you are awarded the scholarship and are subsequently reassessed as a ‘home’ fee-payer, you will no longer be eligible for the scholarship.

Receipt of the scholarship

  • The Science and Technology Dean’s Award is awarded in the first year of study only. It is not renewable if you undertake a second year of study.

  • The scholarship is only available as a partial fee waiver, deducted from your tuition fee. It is not available as a cash alternative.

Lancaster University reserves the right to withdraw this scholarship if award holders are subsequently found to be ineligible or if the terms and conditions of the scholarship are not adhered to.
